Opening Reception July 7, 6-8pm
dieFirma, Cooper Square, NYC
dieFirma is pleased to announce the Storefront Series, an initiative to expand our exhibition program that promotes visibility and dialogue for selected artists. These short form installations run for five weeks and will be accompanied by a dieFirma zine publication.
The snake that holds our house together by Sasha Douglas-Nares comprises seven large format photographs taken from a body of work in which the artist contemplates the heartbreak of climate change. Using her large format camera, Douglas-Nares confronts her surroundings and seeks a way forward.
“As we see the arriving tidal wave of collective disruption that is climate change, contending with our reaction is the next step. As with every loss, hope can be recovered from grief. I question through this work the limits of self-healing in relation to group mindsets – can one heal the collective through the self?”
–Excerpt from the artist’s statement
